The holidays are known for being a tough time for the single, but a terrible gift at the beginning of a relationship can leave you single before Valentine’s Day. There’s no real guide for newly minted couples that says how much you should spend or what you should buy based on the length of your relationship. So we thought we’d take a stab at it.

Based on your feedback and a little bit of our wit, research and collective experiences, we came up with a pricing formula to help you find the perfect gift for your significant other.

Relationship Length – Suggested Amount To Spend on Gifts

Based on the Results of 4238 Single Males (Age 24 to 35)

Dating for < one month : $20

Dating for 1 to 2 months: $50

Dating for 3-6 months: $100

Dating for 6 months to 1 year : $150

Dating for 1-2 years : $200

Dating for 2-4 years : $250

Dating for > 4 years : $250

Based on the Results of 6341 Single Females (Age 24 to 35)

Dating for < one month : $50

Dating for 1 to 2 months: $75

Dating for 3-6 months: $150

Dating for 6 months to 1 year : $200

Dating for 1-2 years : $250

Dating for 2-4 years : $300

Hundreds of dollars on gifts? You can spend waaay less and get a lot more appreciation for your gift if you just make something yourself. Be a man and use your hands!
