What to wear? It’s a dilemma that nearly every woman has been trying to solve for decades! Sure, to some, it may seem like a no-brainer, but choosing the first date outfit is vital to making an impression that will last.

First dates are all about perception, and you can never be sure what your date will take away from your initial meeting – that’s why it’s important to ensure you’re #confident with all elements of your aesthetic.

Before you open the doors of your closet, do some research. Check out the venue online and consult user guides like Yelp! for guidance. Once you know where you’re going, start by selecting an appropriate piece that you’re often complimented on.

Remember, more is more when it comes to clothing. Cover up and save the sexier number for the second date. If you do opt for a top that is backless or low cut, wear it with jeans or a maxi skirt to cover up on bottom. Adversely, if you’re wearing something short, balance the look with long sleeves and a low heel.

Although many women are apt to carry everything plus the kitchen sink in their purse, a simple clutch or shoulderbag will suffice for the first date. Plan ahead and make sure you have all of the vitals such as lipstick or lipgloss, breath mints, and a credit card for incidentals.

Less is more when applying makeup. You want to represent who you are, so dramatic looks should be kept for a later date. Put your best face forward and keep things relatively natural. And remember, touch ups should be saved for the ladies’ room – powdering in front of your date destroys the illusion of “natural,” and can make you seem conceited or high maintenance.

First dates are ultimately all about you. Be poised and polite, and stay true to your identity. There’s no point in faking anything just to make it to date number two – a real man will like you, for you.

What style tips and tricks do you employ on the first date?
